Koh Yao Beach Bungalows

We found cockroaches in the bathroom. The place feels run down, and it needs new owners who care about cleanliness and service. Best avoided.

We had a great stay here from Feb 8-12 2025. The bungalow was across from the beach, with gentle little waves, and there were restaurants and cafes nearby that we really enjoyed. Everyone was kind and sweet. It was affordable and great value, with a spacious room and daily cleaning. We’ll never forget the beautiful sunrise. It was only half a minute's walk away! The receptionist was so kind and helpful, arranging a bike and song taew (local bus to travel around the island) for us and sharing useful insights. We tried breakfast on checkout day too, and it was a lovely meal, good portions and tasty.

The owner was a really nice woman, and communication was easy since she speaks good English. She quickly arranged a bike for me at a good price and helped with onward travel information for Krabi. Everything felt straightforward, and I’d happily come back to this beautiful island and stay here again. I spent 10 great days here. The room was comfortable, especially the bed, and it was cleaned well with good linen and towels. I also liked having a patio surrounded by lovely nature, plus a few friendly, cute cats around. The beach is right across the road at the nicest stretch of this strip, and there are lots of restaurants and bars just a few minutes away on foot.

The beach view is lovely, but a little farther down the road the scenery is even better, and the bungalows sit higher up with less road noise outside. At least the air conditioning worked, though it was noisy too. We left after two nights, something we’ve never done at a hotel before. Traffic noise went on constantly, and we could hear people in the bars across the road all the time. Our room was awful. We don’t expect much from budget bungalows in Southeast Asia, and have stayed in more than 100, but this one at least needed a fresh coat of paint to cover the stains. The towels had holes. Some staff smiled, but the woman we dealt with didn’t. The rental mopeds were terrible, so I’d go elsewhere for one.
