The rooms are as comfortable and spacious as they look online, and the accommodation itself is a really good standard. The beds are firm but comfortable, the location is handy for Ban tai main road, and the family who run the place live across the road and are super friendly. The view is currently of a building site, though. They’re putting up 8 new lodges across the field, and the work is noisy from 8am to 7pm. It’s not pretty to look at. If you’re out all day and get up early, it might not bother you. We got no room cleaning at all during our 8 days. Whenever we needed fresh towels or anything, we had to WhatsApp a number to ask, though they came around straight away once we did. If you like being left alone, that may suit you. I didn’t want to have to message every time I needed clean towels. It would’ve been nice if someone had swept and mopped during the 8 days, because Thailand is dusty. There’s a brush outside if you want to sweep yourself, but I’m on holiday and do enough cleaning at home. The service felt a bit neglectful to me, although the family were very sweet and friendly whenever we asked for something. It just wasn’t my kind of holiday. Noise was another problem, and I’m surprised I haven’t seen reviews mentioning it. The roof seems to be made of some kind of composite plastic. As it heats up and expands after sunrise, it starts banging and cracking all day. It gets really bad at sunset as it cools. On the first day I kept going outside because I thought someone was up there banging. It’s hard to describe how loud it is. There’s also a boxing gym across the road, where you can hear people kicking the bags and grunting during training. I’m particularly sensitive to noise. This place has a lot of potential because the accommodation itself is such a good standard and it’s conveniently close to the main road, which you don’t actually hear. But with the building site in view, the gym noise, and the roof cracking in the heat, I couldn’t stay here again.
The construction right behind our houses was never mentioned before we arrived. When I asked about it, I only got excuses, and the noise outside made it hard to sleep each morning. Check-in was frustrating too: we arrived 15 minutes early, but were told cleaning could take another hour because the cleaner had only just arrived. The manager apologized and said we could enter at 14:00, so we did, but the floors, tables, and other surfaces were all wet and slippery. It was one of my worst experiences in Koh Phangan. Poor service, management, and communication. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
The villa is tucked away from the road, so there was hardly any traffic noise. Nearby are 7/11, Thai fights, a gas station, big Big C, and Sage, an excellent European cuisine cafe. Kim’s parents live close by and are ready to help quickly, too. We spent nine lovely days here. Kim, the owner, was kind and let us check in early. There are three identical villas, and this one had everything we needed for two people. It’s minimalist, which suited us well. The kitchen is basic, with a frying pan, saucepan, four plates, cutlery, a roomy fridge, and an electric stove. There’s a table where you can work, and the Wi-Fi was good enough for me to make Google Meet calls with several people at once. The TV has YouTube, YouTube Music, Netflix, and Google Play. The bedroom stayed cool with the air conditioning, and blackout blinds helped us sleep. We spent many evenings on the hammock in the outdoor area, drinking Australian wine and watching films on a tablet. We didn’t see a single mosquito during our stay. Moths appeared in the last few days, so we had to keep the doors closed for a while. They seemed to be all over the island, perhaps because of a change in the weather. One downside was the roof heating up in the sun and starting to crack. We understand many Thais build roofs this way. We told Kim, and she said she would fix the issue. We’re leaving sadly, and hope the place continues to develop and gets worthy guests.
We stayed for three nights with two friends for the Half moon party. We took a speedboat from Samui and got off at Bantai pier, which is close to everything. It was a good experience.
The houses feel brand new, and were clean and comfortable. They looked even better in person than they did in the photos. Absolutely amazing!
