Utopia House Phangan

The view and baths really are as spectacular as advertised. We enjoyed our two nights at Utopia resort, but most other parts felt basic or below that. Breakfast was very limited, reception staff seemed apathetic, and nobody attended to our room during the stay. The steep road up to the resort is another downside. If you’re not comfortable riding it, you’re reliant on the hotel shuttle, which wasn’t functional for us, or on taxis. The place has a breathtaking view and very cool showers, but could use a fresh spirit of hospitality.

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant almost every night because the food was so good. Try the Burmese Salad. Breakfast was simpler, with just a few solid options. It’s a quiet spot above a beach, with tropical greenery all around. Koh Ma beach is about a 3-minute drive and Chaloklum about 5 minutes, with restaurants, supermarkets, and great cafes. It’s a good base if you have a car or scooter. We found the natural setting lovely, and the ants or insects mentioned in some reviews didn’t bother us. We didn’t find any cockroaches in the bed, and everything seemed very clean and well managed. We had a really good stay. The hotel is simple and well maintained, with excellent service from staff who were always smiling and helpful. You can tell they’re continually improving things, and the recently renovated pool was a big plus. We booked two room types. Our Mountain View room had a nice mix of greenery and sea view from the balcony. The Pool Room had no view, but its small kitchenette was handy and had everything we needed. We’d be happy to stay again.

We booked the Deluxe room with bathtub and regretted not staying longer. The reception team were so kind, welcoming, and helpful that we felt well looked after the whole time. The room was beautiful and cozy, fitting naturally into the surroundings. The bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in, with very clean, great-smelling sheets, and we had an incredible night’s rest. The views were breathtaking. Watching the night sky from the bathtub and balcony felt magical and memorable. The outdoor shower was fun, with a beautiful view, and the water stayed warm for as long as we needed. We’ll definitely be back.

The peaceful setting and stunning views made this a lovely place to recharge. The owner and staff were especially kind and welcoming, and we had an amazing experience. We’ll definitely return. Our room was spotless and well organized. We brought our child, who had plenty of fun activities to enjoy. The food was delicious and clean, with a great variety at a very reasonable price.
