Kira Baya Koh Samed

The beach is nice for sunbathing and kayaking, while Ao Wai is a short ride away if you want to snorkel or swim properly. We had a peaceful, relaxing week at Kira Baya. It's at the quieter end of the island, around 20-25 minutes from town, so a motorbike makes getting around easier and reception can help arrange one. Our room looked lovely and was cozy and comfortable, though a little small. K. Alan was especially kind and helpful, and the rest of the staff were friendly too. Breakfast was decent but could use more variety; we enjoyed the Thai and Western choices at the main restaurant. Given the distance from town, more shared spaces or things like paddle boards, snorkeling gear, movie nights, or live music would make the stay feel fuller.

Even after a wave tipped me out of my kayak, at least ten people rushed down the peninsula to help. The registration attendant reached me first and kept me away from the rocks. I was traveling with a friend recovering from surgery, and the staff went out of their way several times to find unusual transport for us. The young team were the most impressive part of the resort, always ready to help. Food and drinks were quite good, and evenings by the sea were lovely.

The catch is how far down Koh Samed this place is, so you'll need taxis to get around. Still, Kira Baya is a little paradise: it sits in a national park by a small natural private beach, and it's great for snorkeling. We stayed two nights; the villas had what we needed for a quiet, restful break. The price included a private speedboat and taxi transfer from their mainland lounge. Breakfast was nice, with Thai classics or continental choices, and the restaurant served lovely lunch and dinner too. Don't come here if you want to leave paradise.

We'd happily come back. The place has a calm, zen feel, lovely rooms and garden, and a quiet beach where you can rent kayaks. Motorbikes are available too. Everyone on staff was welcoming, kind, and helpful, including the reception managers and Alan. Special thanks to Chyu and the other waiters, who were wonderful. My son will remember them very fondly.
