Edit: They refunded me, though I don’t know what changed. Maybe they saw my review, maybe my Thai friend persuaded them when she called, or maybe Agoda tried talking to them again. Either way, I’m still giving three stars because the way this was handled felt really unpleasant. If they want to explain why they initially refused the refund despite the heartbreaking letter we and Agoda shared, I’m willing to hear it. We’re already in a very difficult position as Europeans stuck in Asia because of the war in the Middle East, with no idea when we’ll be able to get home. Then the ferry company cancelled our ferry, and this place wasn’t willing to refund our stay and was still holding our money. They were allowed to do that under the conditions since we paid through Agoda, but I found it extremely inhuman. It also surprised me given the generally kind, supportive nature of Thai people. I’m writing this from the home of a very helpful Thai person who gave us coffee and, after hearing about our misadventures, offered to host us lol ❤️❤️❤️
