Tok Little Hut

The huts were clean and well placed for walking to either beach, and we appreciated finding fresh towels, toiletries, and water outside every day. The problem was the emergency number at reception: we called after hours and nobody picked up. The next day, we were told the man had the night off. Thankfully it wasn't a life-threatening situation, but what if it had been? Please think about that. For what we paid, the stay was otherwise hard to fault.

Our twin bungalow had no real view: one window faced a concrete wall, and the other looked onto our porch, greenery, and the path between bungalows. Fresh towels, a rubbish bag, soap, shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner appeared on the porch daily, but room cleaning was hit or miss. In five days, someone made the beds just once, on day two. With sand everywhere, we ended up sweeping it out ourselves every few hours using the broom provided. The reception woman wasn't especially smiley, but she was efficient and helped with nearly all our questions and requests. Staff carried our bags upstairs on arrival, but nobody was around to take them down when we checked out at 8am. It might be best to arrange that ahead of time. We'd read that the stairs were steep and worried, but getting to our twin room near the top was fine, even though I'm not very fit. It could be a problem for someone with really bad knees. The location is convenient for the busy center while staying calm at night. The beach feels quieter, especially on weekdays, and there are no bars open at night on that stretch, so you can sit in the dark and enjoy the stars. The louder bar area is only a three-minute walk away, though some rocks and a mermaid statue screen it off.

The restaurant was okay, though nothing special, and the evenings got a bit boring. The last few days, a group of guests were drunk from 10am every day and really annoying, with no awareness of the people around them. Nobody said anything. Even so, I definitely want to come back. The bungalows are spacious and set up on a hill, and the lovely staff cleaned them every day. It's a lovely place.

The food was very good, and the serving staff were nice. But when I asked for cleaning and fresh towels, they said it would be done and then didn't do it. That alone makes this a one-star stay. Tok's Little Hut deserves better than this, but the front desk is a big minus and needs to work much, much better. Don't expect them to get anything done.
