We were extremely disappointed by the owners’ dismissive, rude and unhelpful treatment. We wouldn’t recommend staying here. Our ferry was late and our shuttle refused to drive us up the hill, both beyond our control, so we arrived only 10 minutes after check-in. We told the owners, but they ignored us for an hour while we waited outside, then said we couldn’t enter the villa. As a young couple on a tight budget, we had to scramble late at night for somewhere else during the island’s busiest season and paid a lot for it. We had booked four nights and messaged to say when we’d come back to check in for the remaining three. The next morning, without warning, our entire stay was cancelled. The owners ignored our attempts to contact them, and we had to find another three nights at very short notice, which was extremely expensive at that time of year. They’re also refusing a refund, which is appalling given how they treated us. It felt like they could keep our money and rent out the villa for those three nights as well. My family ran an Airbnb for years. Plans change and travel doesn’t always go smoothly. If you’re in this business, you need to be accommodating.

Laurie and Remi were wonderful hosts. They communicated flawlessly and gave us helpful suggestions for places to eat, even pointing us toward local friends for experiences off the beaten path. Their home is just two minutes from the main road, so it’s convenient to reach but we heard no road noise. One of Koh Samui’s best beaches is a five-minute walk away. The room and swimming pool were perfect.

After Bangkok’s humid bustle, Angelot Villa was a small, flower-filled haven where we felt at home quickly. It’s quiet, well cared for and very clean, with comfortable rooms that have air conditioning, a fan, fridge, mosquito nets, a huge shower, very good beds and great Wi-Fi. The pool area is beautiful, and the welcome was wonderful. Laurie was always smiling and went out of her way to suggest good places and deals based on what we wanted. Her discreet house fairy Nikki also helped, and Laurie could arrange drivers and excursions. A lovely beach is a few minutes away on foot. The villa is tucked back from the main road, where it’s easy to catch songthaews or taxis to busy Chaweng, Lamai or Fisherman village. It felt like a safe, trusting and kind family cocoon, and we’d gladly come back.
