BEA Apartment

The location is perfect, and the apartment was clean. Ann, who looks after the place, was wonderful, friendly, and quick to respond. It’s only a five-minute walk to the main beach road, bars, and restaurants. Shame the furnishings let it down so badly. The bed felt like a slab of concrete, so we had to buy a mattress topper just to sleep. The bedroom ceiling fan was old and unbalanced, rattling and squeaking all night. We couldn’t turn it above low without the noise keeping us awake. The sofa in the living room sagged where people sit, and its fabric was lumpy and scratchy. After ten minutes our backsides went numb, so we covered it with beach towels. The old TV had a big yellow patch over about 40% of the screen. Ann swapped it, but the replacement had bad sound, like a blown speaker. She finally brought a third TV that worked well. Why did we have to go through all that? Everything felt worn out and needed updating and some TLC. Spend a little on the interiors and this place could be perfect.

The location was nice for our two-week stay with my friend, close to the beach and walking street but far enough away that the music didn’t keep us up all night. What really ruined the mood was that two 50€ bills went missing from my passport wallet during one of the room cleanings. I’d kept some money in the apartment for emergencies, which turned out to be a mistake. I’d keep valuables put away while they clean. I’d heard this was pretty uncommon in Thailand and trusted what people said, but you shouldn’t. The missing amount was 10% of what I had in the wallet, so it wasn’t everything, but it’s still something to watch out for. It left me uneasy, feeling like things might be taken. We also had to ask separately for the 5000baht deposit we’d paid at the start, since it wasn’t returned automatically. We did get it back in the end. The 100€ that was taken was a good reminder to stay alert.

It’s a big place, and the beach is just a five-minute walk away.
