Chom Samui Place

The room had a moldy smell, and there were lots of insects. I also didn’t feel secure there.

Quiet rooms, a nice view, and good internet.

The place looked great from the outside and during the first few weeks, and I stayed there quite a while. But there were ongoing electricity and water problems, which I could tolerate. What I couldn’t accept was finding that valuables and money had been taken from my room after it was cleaned. When I raised it, the employee suddenly stopped understanding English and ran away. I explained what happened to the boss, who threatened to call the police because they supposedly saw something “illegal” inside. That was nonsense, but this is Thailand, and apparently we were in the wrong because of our skin color. It all happened in the last week of the stay. Decide for yourself: saving money here may mean paying with your personal belongings. I highly recommend it.

The only real downside for us was the huge number of mosquitoes, probably because the place is so close to the jungle. We kept mosquito coils with us all the time. My husband, our cat, and I stayed in a second-floor apartment. We had arranged to bring the cat in advance on AirBB. The Thai host was friendly, checked us in, and cleaned once a week, changing the sheets and towels. She also brought water and trash bags each day. There’s a Family Mart, 7/11, a bank, pharmacy, and currency exchange nearby. The beach is five minutes away, though it isn’t good for swimming. A swimming spot takes about 13 minutes to reach. Along the road toward Lamai Market, there are cheap cafes where two people can eat for 120-170 baht, drinks included.
