i-samui lamai beach

There wasn’t much of a traditional Thailand feel for us, mainly because the bungalows barely have a terrace. The outdoor seating isn’t covered, so rain makes it unusable. If the resort were full, I doubt the pool would stay as peaceful as it was during our visit, when there were hardly any guests. The dark stretch outside on the way to town wasn’t as bad as other reviews made me expect. The resort and bungalows are clean and well cared for, and felt newly built. It’s a quiet spot where you barely hear the city. The beach in front of Wantaa resort is a 7-10 minute easy walk, and Lamai’s main street is about 4-5 minutes away. The beach is clean and sandy. FamilyMart and 7eleven are around 3-5 minutes on foot. The staff were friendly and very helpful, though only one woman spoke English reasonably well. They’ll try to sort out problems or arrange assistance. Reception quickly arranged a rental motorbike or car, or other transport. Laundry was excellent, washed and dried well and fast. The pool was a useful extra. Our bungalow had two TVs, a microwave, a fridge and a safe. The safe didn’t feel especially secure, but it was still useful. The bed was very firm, but I liked it and slept fine. The kitchen had no plates, cutlery, mugs or other tableware, so you’ll need to buy those, including spoons and forks. There’s nowhere to put things in the kitchen except the table. There were no towel hangers in the bathroom, and the one in the shower leaves towels wet. WiFi was almost useless, slow when it worked and constantly dropping. I’d rate the place higher and definitely return if the bungalows had proper terraces. As it is, I’d book it only if I couldn’t find a better option.

Right in the heart of Lamai, with nice rooms and a very small pool. The rooms could use some refurbishment.

A lovely place with big rooms that are cleaned daily. Breakfast by the pool was nice too.
