Malibu Beach Resort

Being right by the beach was the one good thing here. The rooms were badly run down, and the resort was dirty. I tried two rooms, but the second had the same problems as the first. There were loads of mosquitoes and bed bugs, the walls were so thin I could hear everything, and the room smelled strongly of sewage. I could barely sleep. Breakfast was awful and had very little choice. The place looked nothing like the photos, which I suspect are old or enhanced. When I asked to leave early and get a refund for the nights I would miss, they refused and were very rude. I left anyway. I’m sad I spent my vacation here. It’s far too expensive for what you get, since the same money could get you a much better resort.

The staff were attentive and friendly, and the clean pool has great access to the beach. Bars, supermarkets, and food markets are all nearby too. The rooms are a bit old, though everything worked. There were lots of mosquitoes. Breakfast was basic, but the fresh fruit and juice were a treat.

I’d stayed here in June 2024 and had a great time, so coming back with another guest from June 22 to July 2, 2025 was a real disappointment. I lost about $400 in money and belongings, and the way management handled it completely broke my trust. On June 29, I found my wallet empty. I was sure I’d left around $200-$300 in it, and I hadn’t touched it for several days. The male receptionist dismissed my report, saying they trusted their staff and it couldn’t have happened. He only looked at CCTV from the previous day, then suggested I’d lost the money or it was my fault. That was absolutely not the case. The next day my sports shoes were gone too. My roommate recorded our conversation at reception. The same receptionist insisted nobody had entered our room, even though cleaning staff had been in several times that week. He got defensive and said, “It’s interesting you went to the room so many times but only noticed the shoes missing today.” They’d been left untouched since we arrived, and I only looked for them when I needed them. The hotel showed no real concern or took responsibility. We heard nothing about their supposed investigation until we asked again. In the end they told us to go to the police, even though we were leaving in two days and that wasn’t practical. I loved the hotel on my first visit, but I can’t recommend it now and won’t return.

The location was great, and I really enjoyed the stay. The staff were marvelous, so kind and helpful, especially Brim, Jimmy, Fern, Bopay, Pop and Toh. I’ll come back, it was a GREAT stay.
