Papillon Residence

We had a lovely, quiet week here as a family, with nice views from the rooms and balconies. Sunsets were beautiful, and you could watch the weather roll in too. The resort also makes a good base for sightseeing because of where it is, especially if you'd rather explore than lie on the beach all day. Thanks again to Valérie, who gave us helpful tips, sorted out a scooter for us and helped whenever we needed it. The rooms were spacious and clean.

There isn't a particularly nice beach near Residence Papillon, which was the one drawback for us. Valery was happy to arrange transport, though, whether we needed a taxi, bus or a roller for 200 Baht a day. We had a very nice stay in July 2016. Valery was friendly and took care of almost everything, including the bus, taxi and laundry. The rooms were clean and air conditioned.

The shallow seabed stretches about 100 meters from shore, and the beach itself is small. Watch out for sharp shells and rocks underfoot, so slippers or some care are useful. There’s a pool at the hotel, and the place is close to the sea and a 7/11 store. The bunk room was especially cozy. It felt more like someone’s home than a rental, as if the owners might come back any minute. The stay was inexpensive and had a really warm feel. Only Europeans were staying there while we visited. Valerie, the owner, is a charming, hospitable young French woman with a great sense of humor. Her husband runs Papillon Resort 10 km away, which is also very nice. I recommend both places as lovely places to stay on Koh Samui.
