ShaSa Resort & Residences, Koh Samui

My partner and I were really disappointed. During our March 2025 stay, many of the amenities advertised on-site weren’t available, and there wasn’t much else offered. Our room was run-down: unraveling carpet, exposed drywall, cracked walls, signs of mold, rock-hard beds, and small TVs. The only on-site restaurant kept inconsistent hours. The one time we ordered room service, it arrived lukewarm, and the prices were much higher than at similar restaurants in Thailand. The “beach” was rocky, dirty, and unusable; at check-in they told us to avoid it. I can’t understand how this place calls itself a 5-star resort. It came nowhere near our expectations, and we were truly uncomfortable. Maybe it could suit travelers who care more about having a large space than comfort, amenities, or convenience, but there are so many other lovely places on Samui that would be better. We told management we were disappointed and wanted to stay somewhere else. They couldn’t have cared less. I’m sharing our honest experience so other travelers considering this place have accurate information to make an informed decision. If you do book, rent a car because it’s in the middle of nowhere. And make sure a firm bed works for you, because they’ve never heard of anything plush.

Shasa was so incredible that I’ll be ruined for other places after this stay. The pools are lovely, and there are stunning views from all over the property. We didn’t want to leave. This was our best accommodation so far in six weeks in Thailand. The whole suite felt like home, with comfortable beds, plenty of living space, and a well-equipped kitchen. Breakfast was free, tasty, and varied. We liked the restaurant food too, and room service was really convenient when we used it. It’s a little off the beaten path, so we used the on-site scooter rentals or called a taxi to explore the rest of Samui.

It’s peaceful and secluded, with spacious rooms, beautiful ocean views, and access to a small private beachfront. There aren’t many rooms on the property, which makes it a great choice if you’re after solitude. The staff are very friendly. Getting around the rest of the island is a bit difficult without a car, but the quiet setting makes that trade-off worthwhile.

The apartment was enormous, almost palace-like, and everything was super clean. We also loved the beachside location, the gardens and pools, and breakfast each morning. The restaurant area was lovely, and the gym was good too. Thanida and May at reception were especially friendly and helpful. There was renovation work going on, though it didn't bother us much. The resort is a little out of town, which suited us because it was peaceful. A car makes getting around easier. We rented one at the airport for US$31 per day; scooters are cheaper, and reception rents them for 400 baht a day. We had a great stay and hope to come back. Thanks for having us! 🙂👍
