SocialTel Koh Samui

We had a good time in Koh Samui and loved the private room we booked through Agoda. They offer lots of activities for meeting people and do their best to keep you entertained. I’d suggest booking through their own website. The only thing that felt a bit much was the nighttime music, which you can hear a little in the rooms.

The rooms look nice, are clean, and have great bathrooms. The beds were really comfortable too. But the social side was the worst of all the hostels we stayed at. It’s meant to be a party and social hostel, yet nobody seemed to socialize. There was a DJ playing all evening and night every day, but there was hardly anyone around. The pool was always empty, with loud music and nobody dancing. The staff felt a bit odd about giving us enough keycards: there were four of us and we got two. We were also out of toilet paper all day, and the cleaners didn’t come until 5pm. It looks like one of the best hostels, but the atmosphere didn’t work for us.

We booked on short notice and stayed two nights, and I really liked the room. It was arranged well, with no wasted space. If you can get one at the back of the hotel, with a window facing the mall, you won’t hear anything at night. I’d recommend the private rooms for solo travelers or couples.

SocialTel was a fun, very clean hostel with a great atmosphere. The staff were all friendly, and Saw deserves a special mention for making us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. I’d definitely stay again.
