The hotel is right on the beach, with lovely views from its bright yellow beanbags. It’s a chilled, beautiful spot that felt like a welcome break from everyday busyness. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to help with anything. If you want a laid-back getaway with great service and a beachfront setting, this place is for you.

The location is central Chaweng, which is great if you’re after Chaweng beach and nightlife. The pool is long enough for a nice swim if you don’t want to head to the gorgeous ocean. The beachfront itself is very small, with beach bags to sit on but no space for sunbeds. The rooms are tiny, and don’t expect an ocean view from yours. Breakfast is basic, nothing special. If all you need is a room to sleep in, the hotel is fine.

It’s on the main street, so music from outside gets very noisy. If you’re here to enjoy the nightlife, that may suit you, but otherwise it feels like an ordinary 2.5-star hotel. I’m not sure it’s good value for money.

The buffet breakfast was really good, with plenty of continental choices, and the beachside location is very good. Rooms are spacious, well equipped, and have decent amenities like beach towels and an electric kettle. Service could be better: they don’t serve anything to the rooms, not even the one litre of water per person. Rooms are also only available after 1 pm, which gets a bit tiring.

I loved the unusual banana theme at The Stay. It’s a modern, clean new hotel in a great spot, and I had an incredible stay. I’ll definitely return when I’m back in Koh Samui. Tip: ask for a room in building 4 to be closest to the beach and pool.
