Ubox samui Hostel & Bungalows

I liked the place at first, and the staff seemed really nice. On my last morning, I was the only person in the dorm and went to shower. I saw the cleaning team enter my room while I was brushing my teeth. When I returned, 1000 Baht was gone. I’m glad I hadn’t brought more money. I told the staff what had just happened, but they said their cleaning personnel would never steal. I’ve read the reviews and it seems I’m one of a lot of people this has happened to, even in private rooms.

We had trouble with cockroaches, and the staff were very accommodating about upgrading our room. They checked in with us throughout the stay, which was helpful. At checkout, though, the receptionist tried to keep our 500baht deposit and kept insisting she had already returned it.

The location was excellent, but the room near the beach was really dirty. There was no bin in the bedroom, just one in the bathroom, and it wasn’t emptied during the two days I stayed. The bidet hose was basically a pressure hose and didn’t feel sanitary or safe. The mattresses were mouldy under the sheets, and the bathroom had all sorts of insects, some work things, and a gecko I named Simon. It could be noisy with people passing on their way to their rooms or the beach. My roommate often left the key-locked door unlocked, and my locker wouldn’t lock either. It also wasn’t very social because the room was far from the common area.

Getting around was easy since the hostel can arrange activities and transport. The staff were very friendly, and the familiar faces made the place feel welcoming. The beachside rooms are across the street, shared with only three other people, so it was quiet and comfortable. I’m tall and still had lots of space in the bed. The bathroom was big and clean, with the best shower I’ve had on my trip. At €7-8 a night, the value is amazing. Highly recommend!
