Villa The Spot Koh Samui

The views are stunning, and the infinity-style pool looking out over the surroundings is peaceful and spectacular. The rooms are spacious, with lovely views, so the stay itself feels relaxing. Breakfast is basic, unlike what you’d get at a bigger resort, but that’s fine. Getting there is the big problem. About four minutes from the villa, the road becomes almost vertical. Around 90% of Grab and Bolt drivers refuse drop-offs or pickups, which could throw off ferry or flight plans. A few times we had to get out partway up and walk 5-6 minutes down the steep hill. Barefoot felt safer because shoes or slippers slipped, and that didn’t feel safe for many travellers. The owner suggests his private taxi, which costs almost twice as much as Grab or Bolt. He did kindly help with our luggage, but the access issue remains unless you plan to stay at the villa most of the time. It’s not ideal if you want to be near the city, restaurants, or easy transport. I wouldn’t recommend it for families, older guests, people with mobility concerns, or Indian families unfamiliar with this kind of terrain. Best for adventurous travellers who are comfortable with steep, risky access and want a pool with a view while mostly staying in.

The location isn’t perfect, and the hilly roads can be a challenge, but getting around by motorbike was easy. Coral Cove Beach is under 10 minutes away and town is about 15 minutes. It was worth it for us. The family running the place were so warm and welcoming, and the views were stunning. Everything looked just like the photos, with a cozy, homey feel. We loved the home-cooked meals prepared right in front of us, especially the sweet Thai pancakes (roti).

The room was lovely, with a stunning view, and the area was quiet and pleasant. Staff were attentive and very helpful.

The room was dirty, with stained pillows, poor shower pressure, a filthy minibar, and no “Do Not Disturb” sign. While we were on the balcony, staff came into our room without permission. The air conditioner barely worked, and the pool was dirty; the jacuzzi couldn’t be used. At check-in, we asked for insect spray and the owner, Mr. Frederic, rudely told us, “This is not a five-star hotel, you’re being too demanding.” When we tried to rent a motorbike, he demanded our passports as a deposit, which is illegal in Thailand. We refused and offered cash, but he shouted, “My rules are my rules. I don’t want customers like you!” Later he threatened to call the police and said, “Until they arrive, we know what to do with you.” They charged 600 THB for a tiny menstrual stain, a humiliating and inhumane policy when 1kg of laundry is around 40THB. At checkout, two staff members filmed us without permission and knocked on our door before checkout time, pressuring us to leave. Worst stay ever, from beginning to end. I’m shocked by the positive reviews and curious whether the owner will reply creatively to this one or use his usual “mirror to mirror” response.
