Mr. Waan is a great owner, and the Burmese staff are friendly, though their English is limited and they have virtually no Thai. The owner speaks great English and, of course, Thsi. It’s on a family-friendly beach in a nice part of the island, with a lovely garden atmosphere and comfortable rooms. Beer, coffee, soda, and meals are all very reasonably priced.

The staff made us feel welcome, and having a 7 Eleven next door was really handy. Our room was nice, though there were a few ants, which might bother some people. It’s a quiet spot on a small beach, fine for a quick dip but not especially good for swimming. You’re a long way from the island’s main attractions, so you’ll need a scooter or taxis to get around.

I was able to get a room at the last minute during the busiest time of year, and the staff were so friendly and always ready to help. Mine was on the third floor, with a beautiful view, lovely tile, and a big fridge. It seemed like a newer room. There was no TV, but I didn’t need one. The nearby main road didn’t make it noisy, and the beach was close. A 7-11 was just around the corner, with shops and laundry within walking distance. The steep stairs to the third floor were a bit of a struggle, though I’m young and able. My only real downside was having to leave so soon.

I spent four months living here in peaceful Chalok and couldn’t have asked for a better deal. The long-term rent was extremely reasonable, and regular cleaning was included. The landlord is lovely, the staff were always incredible, and it felt like a great business to support on Koh Tao.
