Silver Sands Resort - Koh Tao

Good spot if you want to be right among the nightlife, but not if you’re hoping for a full night’s sleep. The rooms are basic but have what you need: a fridge, AC, fan, TV and plenty of plugs. The shower pressure was awful, though. The water was warm, so I’d almost have been better off using the bidet. Service wasn’t great either. We got dirty towels from the start, and staff seemed annoyed when we asked for clean ones. Same reaction when we requested an extra sheet after being given only a single one for a double bed.

We loved the comfortable, clean hotel and ended up extending our stay twice. It’s extremely well located, and I slept well. Staff were always sweet and helpful. The cleaning team left water bottles in the fridge and replaced our towels every day. You also get 10% off at the spa next door, which was a nice bonus. Moonsoon the cat is a very welcoming host too. Every day, loud music started at 12:00 noon and carried on until 2:00 AM. After that, beach noise and the party crowd were still audible, so I couldn’t sleep at all during the nights. If you’re in your twenties, want to party all night and are happy sleeping only in the early morning, this is a cheap place for you. Other travelers should consider staying somewhere else. It’s an extremely noisy environment, with daily music from noon until 2:00 AM and beach parties carrying on afterward.

You’re close to the beach and right in the hustle and bustle of Koh Tao, which is great for location. But the party hostel next door was so loud that I was kept awake most nights until 5am during our stay. Keep that in mind if you’re a light sleeper. The room was basic but functional. We were given a single-sized blanket for a double bed and had to ask for extra bedding. The towels were very dirty, and the man at reception seemed annoyed when we asked for clean ones. He wasn’t very accommodating.
