O'chai Bungalows

The beachfront setting is lovely, and it may be cheap, but paying a little more could get you much better accommodation. The bungalows are old and falling apart, with problems like the shower, doors, knobs, and windows. Ours was dusty and dirty, and the closet was moldy. If you’re in a twin bungalow sharing a balcony, the walls are paper thin. Maybe you’ll get nice neighbors, but we didn’t. They don’t clean or provide extra toilet paper unless you ask, even on a longer stay. Roosters roam around freely and woke us up every morning from 4am. Staff weren’t welcoming or very friendly, and did less than the minimum.

The best thing was being able to walk straight to the beach. For the same price, though, we’ve stayed in much better places. Our bungalow was open at the top of the roof, so we could hear everything from everyone and it was really loud. We also found a smoked cigarette between the mattress and frame, so the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. After showering, the bathroom stayed wet, with no air conditioning or ventilation. The Wi-Fi didn’t work either.

We spent 10 nights here while taking diving courses at Scuba Shack. The location is incredible, just a 10 second walk from a beautiful beach that you can see from the balcony, with lots of restaurants and bars along it. The rooms had what we needed: a wardrobe with hangers, a mini fridge and freezer, toilet roll, and towels. Staff were all great and quick to help whenever we needed anything. It’s good value and such a unique, beautiful place to stay. Highly recommend!

We didn’t stay here, so I can’t say anything about the accommodation, but it was our favourite beach restaurant. The food was exceptional: the curries had amazing depth of flavour, and the fresh fish was cooked perfectly. It’s a local family business, and the staff were so sweet and kind.
