King Kong Hostel @ Krabi

The room was compact but clean and comfortable, and the staff were really friendly. There's free coffee in the pleasant lobby. The hostel/guest house is new and centrally located in Krabi town, with a quirky design mixing dark concrete, brick, wood, tile and astroturf. A half block away are the songtao stop for Ao Nang and the night market. For the price, it's a good choice if you're staying in Krabi. The small downsides: my room had no window, so it was easy to oversleep, and water pooled on the bathroom floor outside the shower because it didn't drain well.

Renovations were still underway when I visited, and only the first floor was open. The design there was really nice. Try for a room with windows. There's no bar, but being so central makes that less of an issue. After midnight nobody is at reception. You can let yourself in with your keys, though I didn't feel very safe about it.

Clean and a good deal for the price, with a massage parlour attached that's handy. The ventilation, though, is poor.
