The Zenery

The bathroom is cramped, and getting into the hotel is awkward. Even an extra towel, pillow, or blanket costs another 30 baht.

The Zenery Hotel saved the night after a really bad arrival experience at a nearby chain. There were rooms available at a very reasonable walk-in rate, so I abandoned my original reservation, grabbed my bags, and checked in here. The place was clean and comfortable, and I slept well. Breakfast isn't included. They cook two eggs and two chicken sausages fresh at 7:00 am, but when I came down at 7:15 they were stone cold and not worth 100 baht. The rice porridge was still hot, if that's enough for you. For other options, Dunkin Donuts beside Makro opens at 9:00 am, or cross the pedestrian bridge to Big C Supercentre, where there's a food park, two bakeries, and coffee shops on both floors.

The staff were friendly and pleasant, and the lobby looks really nice. The rooms let the place down a bit: they seem tired and neglected, and the bathroom in particular wasn't clean. It looks modern from outside, but with plenty of other good hotels nearby, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

I checked into room 609 around 8 pm, expecting more from a place that looks new and modern outside. The facilities inside were disappointing, and the staff didn't seem welcoming. The bathroom looked old and a little dirty, with a broken faucet. The air conditioner was so noisy that by 1 am I couldn't take it anymore and asked to move. The night staff came up, handed me a key card for room 201, and asked me to record the noise, without offering help with the move or apologizing or explaining anything. Room 210 was a lower grade than 609, somewhat dirty, with a hard bed. The toilet seat and lid were very dirty too, but I was too sleepy to complain. Breakfast was disappointing as well: eggs, sausage, bread, rice porridge, and water. Coffee costs 50 TB.
