Jamadevi Hotel

I had a very happy stay of more than two weeks. The staff were friendly and did their best to make me feel at home. Breakfast was fabulous and freshly cooked. The hotel is probably the best in Lamphun, with a large open tub in the room. There’s a lovely atmosphere at the hotel cafe, which serves a selection of nice cakes. The location is great too, with a 7/11 just a two-minute walk away and lots of delicious local restaurants nearby. You won’t go hungry.

We enjoyed our one-night stay in a Deluxe-Boutique room. It was huge, and the staff were very nice and helpful. They had the A/C running while we checked in, so it was lovely to walk into a cool, fresh room. Hot water worked in the bathtub, though not in the shower. The room had four bottles of water and two small packs of crisps. They also gave us their homemade crispy mini puffs filled with longan. They tasted nice, but there was no expiration date on the package, so I wasn’t sure how fresh they were 😅 The location is great for walking to Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, Wat Mahawan, the walking street, Queen Camadevi's Monument, and the market.

It’s priced like a luxury hotel, but it isn’t one and doesn’t even serve a decent breakfast. Road noise went on through the night, and mosquitos came in through the entrance door. Maybe that’s why they can’t sell rooms through the big online agencies anymore.

I stayed here in 2018 and thought it was great, then came back in 2019 and had a disappointing visit. I paid 400 baht per room for breakfast, which wasn’t worth it. You had to pre-order eggs the evening before from a picture showing sausage, ham, salad, and omelette, but when I asked for an omelette, it wasn’t available. They served lyoner instead of ham. Breakfast was meant to start at 7:30 in the coffee shop, but the staff didn’t show up until 8. I asked for a cappuccino and was told they only had black coffee to give for free. The coffee they served was cold and tasted like water. I sent it back and got a proper one, but the waiter shouldn’t have served it knowing it was wrong. The room was worn out. I stayed in the same room as before, and nothing seemed to have been done to it in the year between visits. The owner seemed to spend more time with her family than looking after guests and didn’t even say “good morning.” For what I paid, it was a disappointing stay. Next time I’d rather stay in Chiang Mai for better value, quality, and price.
