Loei Palace Hotel

I stayed four nights in January 2026, and it was a terrible experience. Loei Palace is rated four stars, but in my opinion it would struggle to deserve three. The service was frustrating at both ends of the stay. Nobody was available to help with my luggage on arrival, so I unloaded it from my car myself. At checkout, I requested help with my bags and waited over five minutes. There was also just one person at the front desk at noon, handling a check-in while I waited to check out. A hotel this size needs at least three clerks during a busy period. My room was sold as a “deluxe twin,” but it was sparsely and cheaply furnished, including the bathroom, and the decor left a lot to be desired. I understand the hotel was built in 2000, and doubt this room has been refurbished since then. The bed was uncomfortable too. The Wi-Fi did not work in the room. I reported it four times and was told each time it would be fixed, but it never was. I eventually gave up. It did work in the lobby and breakfast restaurant. The first time I used the bathroom sink, water leaked underneath and left a huge puddle. They repaired it after I reported it, but maintenance should have caught it before assigning the room. Bird droppings covered the concrete facade outside my window, which was disgusting, and nesting birds woke me early on some mornings. I don't understand why management hasn't dealt with it, since plastic and metal deterrents are available. One morning, while I was getting more food from the breakfast buffet, a bird flew into the restaurant, landed on my table, and started pecking at my food. The windows and entrance were wide open, even though birds nest on the hotel facade. Noise was another problem on some days, from the sports ground opposite and from loud music blaring out of the hotel's function rooms. The breakfast selection was disappointing for Western guests, though the bread and ham were very good. There's limited parking at ground level in front of the hotel. More is available on waste ground across the road and in the underground car park, but the latter is shabby, dingy, dark, filthy, and poorly designed.

The rooms are large and comfortable, and the price is excellent for what you get. You can easily walk into town, and there’s an entrance to the park right from the lobby. Plenty of parking too.

We booked six months ahead because the hotel had a pool, then paid one day before the stay. Just seconds later, an email arrived saying the pool had been closed since March 3, a month earlier. They should have told us before taking the payment. We’re unhappy about it.

I booked a deluxe king and found the room spacious, very clean, and completely odor-free. The mattress was good, and the shower pressure was incredibly strong. It’s in a quiet area without a 7-11 nearby, but that was fine with me because the room quality was better than I expected for the price. Well worth it.
