Areeya Phuree Resort

For one night, it did the job. We chose to stay somewhere else afterward, but if money is really tight, it’s not terrible. The staff were friendly, our sheets were clean and fairly comfortable, and the Wi-Fi in our room was good. The fridge and air conditioning worked well, and you can rent a bike there. There were some drawbacks. The bathroom tap leaked and left the floor wet. The pillows were mouldy and had no cases, though luckily we found spare ones in the other room. There was what looked like a termite nest in the bathroom cupboard, along with tissues left by earlier guests. We shut the cupboard and it didn’t seem active or cause us trouble. The power also went out once, which might have been outside the owner’s control. There was no mosquito net, but I should have checked the photos first. It costs about half as much as other places nearby, so set expectations accordingly.

For 320 Baht, the room was okay and clean, including the beds and towels. I was given a large room at the far corner of the resort near the swimming pool, which was empty of water. It had a living space and a sleeping area separated by bamboo matting, plus a roomy bathroom with a walk-in closet. The liquid soap smelled odd, maybe like it was old. I asked for a room key but didn’t get one. They told me my things would be safe, which I accepted, though it felt unusual. There seemed to be a nice coffee shop and restaurant by the entrance, but I didn’t get to try them. The resort looks like it’s seen better days. Its original style doesn’t match the upkeep of the grounds.

The place is very old, and the pool is dry with leaves all over it. Wi-Fi is weak in some rooms. The hot water runs on gas, with the exhaust venting into the bathroom.

The owners are a lovely, helpful family across three generations. The white-haired grandma was so elegant, like she was expecting the queen. Staying here felt like stepping into old-school Thailand, a real time capsule. It’s a great place for a night, as long as you don’t expect international standards and are ready to travel.
