Old Tree's House

We loved the calm surroundings at Old tree's house, with flowers to smell and birds all around. It’s a beautiful little oasis and well worth visiting if you want somewhere peaceful. Nid’s hospitality was incredible. She offered useful recommendations and really looked after our well-being. Getting to know Nid and this place felt like a gift. We had such a relaxing time and are already dreaming about coming back someday :)

It’s a shame, because with some maintenance this could be lovely. The pool is out of service, and the place looks neglected compared with its former glory as a resort. The bathroom tap and toilet dripped, and there was no water pressure. The bed was extremely hard and felt worn out. Several steps were broken too. As described, there’s no TV or AC, and we had just one coffee sachet in the room. There are nicer places to stay in town. For this price, the resort needs some upkeep.

The hotel didn’t look much like the photos, and felt far too expensive for what we got. The pools were empty apart from one very small one. Our room seemed neglected: the fan was filthy, the very old bed sagged badly in the middle, the door lock didn’t work at all, the sink tap dripped loudly, and the bathroom door handle was loose. There was just one Nescafé packet for two people, which I’ve never encountered in Thailand. For over 50$ CAN, I expected more. The whole place seemed like it had been allowed to run down. I won’t return when I’m back in the area.

The quiet setting is perfect for relaxing, with birds to watch from the verandah and stars visible at night. At dawn, the views over the mountains and Maekok river are breathtaking. Nid was kind and brought us fruit from her garden. The gardens are wonderful, and there are several pools to cool down in. The bungalows are beautifully made and decorated in woven rush and bamboo. Such a lovely place to unwind.
