Onsen @ Moncham

The food really stood out, and they made my birthday meal and day feel extra special. The place feels wonderfully peaceful, just what you need to slow down and reset. Staff were exceptionally friendly, and the grounds crew were always keeping everything immaculate. Our room was great, with housekeeping coming twice a day to keep it tidy. The onsen baths and massages were excellent too. I'd gladly recommend this resort.

The spa was the one part that felt a little less impressive. The treatments were fine, but for the higher price, the experience didn't seem as distinctive or specialized as some of the better known city chains. We stayed in the Grand Imperial Onsen Suite, which was spacious, comfortable, and practical, a lovely private place to unwind. The whole setting is wonderfully quiet, with forest and plantations all around, fresh mountain air, and beautiful weather. We came in low season, when occupancy was below 50%, and that made the resort feel especially peaceful and private. Staff were attentive from the moment we arrived. Mi Zu is the only restaurant on site, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by the range of choices. You can also order room service, which is handy when you want to eat in your suite. Most vegetables come from farms and plantations around the mountain, part of a Royal Project as we learned, and they tasted very fresh and crisp. The chefs were happy to adjust dishes to our dietary needs, and the meals felt like real farm-to-table food. We loved the mix of Japanese onsen culture and the northern Thai highlands. We left refreshed and would happily recommend it for a quiet getaway.

The room upgrade we received as a surprise made our family stay even more memorable. It was extremely spacious, and we really appreciated it. We came as a family of three, my husband, our daughter, and me, and the whole visit was comfortable and relaxing. The onsen was wonderful, and every meal at the restaurant was delicious, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. Every group of staff we met, from reception and housekeeping to the gardeners, security, ground crew, onsen team, and restaurant staff, greeted us warmly and took good care of us. Neko deserves a special mention for her lovely smile and warmth at meals. The managers were approachable and attentive too, and everything ran smoothly. The rooms and facilities were beautifully designed, and the service exceeded what we expected. We can't think of anything to fault, and we're grateful for the care and kindness shown to our family. We drove about an hour from Hang Dong for a weekend to recharge, and it was exactly the restful break my wife and I needed. The public Onsen was so calming. Moving from the cold plunge to the hot bath and then the room temperature water left us feeling like we'd just had a massage. We felt great. We booked an in Onsen suite, though we spent most of our time in the public Onsen. The beds are Japanese style and a little firm, but still soft for Asia. Dinner was fabulous and breakfast was out of this world. Check-in was seamless, and from arrival to departure the staff were kind, welcoming, and thoughtful about our needs. There were no complaints from us. A fun extra was the little wild rabbits roaming around the property. Pure bliss, and we'll be back.
