Maesai Holic Lodge

I tried calling to book, but they didn’t speak English and just hung up on me. Looks like I won’t be sleeping there.

We stayed one night at Mae Sai Holic Lodge while driving through northern Chiang Rai. It’s a small guesthouse in a residential area, and we had a good stay. Breakfast was included, with a pretty good mix of Thai and Western options. We paid about 600B on Agoda. The room had the essentials and even a bathtub, though the bathroom lighting was dim and didn’t make it inviting for a long soak. The bed was a bit hard, and we could feel the individual springs against our backs. The fridge had drinks and snacks for sale at fair prices, just a little above 7-Eleven. There was also a note saying phone chargers and cables could be borrowed, which was a nice touch. Parking is limited, especially for larger vehicles, and could be a problem if every room is occupied. The lodge was tricky to find: Google Maps sent us down a dirt track too narrow for cars. Use the marker and follow the road to the end; the lodge is on the right.

The owner was really nice, and the dog was lovely too. The rooms matched the photos and were very comfortable. Everything else was just right as well, with clean bathtubs and hot water.

The resort wasn’t easy to find, so it’s better to call the owner when you reach the bus station. He’ll come pick you up. He’s really friendly, and the room was definitely clean. If you buy food at the local market, you can even have a BBQ together.
