B2 Mae Sot Boutique & Budget Hotel

The rooms and facilities have some good points for the price, but our experience with the receptionist was awful. During our two-day stay, the service felt sarcastic and rude, and we felt guests were treated differently because of nationality and race. It’s upsetting to be treated unequally, especially when we believe everyone should be equal. Based on what happened to us with one receptionist, I’d say Thai or white guests may be fine here, but Burmese, Indian, or other Asian travelers might want to avoid it. It’s sad to see this kind of staff at such a big hotel.

There was a spider web in my room, which was annoying, and the bathroom layout was strange. There’s just one trash can, in the bathroom, so all your other rubbish has to go there. It rained really hard one night and the power went out in my room. I didn’t call reception since it happened at night, so I had no air conditioning. When I asked people in the neighboring rooms the next day, they said their power hadn’t gone out.

The rooms are clean, but my stay was disappointing. I’m from Australia and booked three rooms for my family, including Karen relatives. My room, 312, was cleaned and restocked each day, while their rooms weren’t touched and water was just left outside. I got laundry service when I asked, but my Karen relatives were told to look for a service in Mae Sot. The rooms aren’t soundproof at all: you can hear conversations and TVs from other rooms, along with loud road traffic. The advertised cafeteria wasn’t there, just a small fridge with a few soft drinks and no food. Some rooms had kettles and coffee or tea, but mine had none. I wouldn’t stay again, and I’d encourage Karen travelers to avoid it too.

The hotel is very comfortable, but there’s nowhere nearby to get breakfast or coffee, within half a mile. There are no amenities at all, including no breakfast and no coffee, and the closest restaurants don’t open until 4:30.
