Sai Nam Wang Resort

The setting was beautiful and peaceful, and our hosts were wonderful. They were kind and accommodating throughout, and even went out of their way to help us find something at a local mall. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. We’d highly recommend the place to anyone! 😊

BEWARE! My wife booked one night for four adults and two kids after seeing the online photos. Looking back, they were misleading. We’re locals in Chiang Mai, not 19-year-old backpackers, and we expected a certain level of quality. It was obvious as soon as we arrived that we weren’t getting that. The whole complex looked worn and neglected. The moss-covered stairs up to the room were another warning sign. Inside, the old wooden room was badly outdated and smelled, nothing like the pictures. We knew straight away we wouldn’t stay. The booking was for six, but there was bedding for only four. My wife had told the manager by phone there would be six, and the manager insisted on full payment before we arrived. We now know why. The place was a smelly dump. I found an outdoor kitchen at the back of the property, which said it all. If only we’d taken photos as proof. We told the manager we weren’t staying because the place wasn’t as advertised or suitable for us. We’re sure the photos were from more prosperous days before Covid. We asked for a partial refund, as seemed fair, but she refused. Instead, she offered a discount voucher, knowing we wouldn’t come back. Don’t expect a resort. It’s an old, outdated lodge-style cabin, with nothing there to entertain you or your family, and it’s seriously overpriced.

I personally like this resort. It’s quiet, close to nature and a small river, and the house is comfortable and clean. The staff were genuinely friendly and kind. I’d suggest coming straight from Chiang Mai town and avoiding the road from Doi in thanon.
