Moonshine Resort Chumphon

We chose a regular room at Moonshine Resort for a night while waiting for the ferry to the islands, and it suited us perfectly. After checking out, we missed our ferry and had to come back. The staff were surprised because they’d already cleaned the room, but kindly let us in to rest and nap. That thoughtful gesture made a stressful day much easier. Huge thanks to the team for their hospitality. I highly recommend it for comfort and great service on the way to the islands.

It’s a lovely, quiet place to stay overnight before a morning ferry to Koh Tao, Pha Ngan, or Samui, or if you want to get away from towns and villages. I stayed in one of the solid rooms, though canvas buildings are available too. The pool looked nice, but I only had time for a quick dip. There are two places to eat a short walk away. If you’ll be here during quiet season, maybe bring something with you.

The welcome was the worst part. I asked the woman for information about tours and things to see, and she laughed at me and told me to look it up online. The room was dusty and smelled terribly musty. There were used medicine blister packs beside the bed, no toilet paper in the bathroom dispenser, and hairs in the bed. I picked this place for its location near the Koh Tao ferry pier, but it was much farther from everything else than I expected. Booking a Grab or Bolt was practically impossible because nobody accepted the ride, and there weren’t many food options nearby. Of all the hotels and residences I’ve tried in Thailand, I think this was the worst.

The tent room has air conditioning and is reasonably priced. There’s also a swimming pool, and you can relax in the garden at night.
