Chateau de Bear Hotel

This seems like a convenient, adequate place for a night’s stop before heading north or down south to Bangkok. The room is spacious, with a large, clean mattress and pillows, plenty of storage, and a small safe. The bathroom is roomy, with a big shower stall and an outdoor rain shower too. Breakfast is good, and amenities are provided. There’s free Netflix on the TV. A few things could be better: bugs and mosquitoes get into the room easily, even though they provide mosquito traps. I’d like more bathroom storage, such as shelves for toiletries, and non-slip pads in the bathroom would be nice. The steps to the room also aren’t elderly friendly.

I picked this place while passing through because the design looked great, but the quality was disappointing. The AC was noisy and didn’t cool the room, and the bathroom sink pipe was broken. The internet and TV both failed, even after staff tried to help. The chateau-like building also felt a little creepy to me.

The location is close to the city, and the customer service was very good. The staff were helpful, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. It isn’t elderly friendly, though, since getting to the room means walking on a slope and negotiating shallow steps.

I woke up in pain on both nights because the mattress was far too firm, even for someone who likes a firm bed. The shower water was room temperature, not even warm, though the bathroom itself was nice. The toilet kept running, the internet was slow and spotty, and streaming or Zoom calls wouldn’t have been possible. The TV only had one channel, something like Thai HSN, and the lamps had fluorescent bulbs that made the place feel like a truck stop motel. The front desk made no effort to help me do or find anything. There’s nothing within walking distance, and the online pictures don’t match what’s actually here. It feels like the hotel’s heyday was 25 years ago, and that’s when they stopped investing in upkeep. I’d never recommend it to anyone.
