Happy in Pai is right in the city center, so shops, markets, and nightlife are easy to reach on foot. If being close to the action is your priority, it's hard to beat. It's a convenient place to sleep after a late night at the local bars or a visit to a nearby dispensary. The rooms aren't especially cozy, and the sound carries badly through the thin walls. You can hear neighboring guests talking on their phones or making love, so there's very little privacy. Bring earplugs. It's a good central base for social travelers sleeping off a wild night, but I wouldn't suggest it for a quiet, cozy, or private escape.

The air conditioning and Wi-Fi were both very good, and the location is hard to beat: just a two-minute walk from Walking Street, a 7-Eleven, restaurants, and cafes. But the bed felt like a concrete slab, and there was no hot shower water. On two of our three nights, a fuse board in the room buzzed for a while and kept us awake. It also didn't inspire much confidence. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear everything from 6am to noon.

The room was basic, comfortable, and affordable, with working air conditioning and showers. There are two washing machines near reception at 30 baht per use and a dryer for 60 baht. The owner is friendly and can help arrange scooter hire or taxis. Cheap and cheerful!

Pai honey is in a perfect spot, and the breakfast they make is lovely. Scooter hire is very reasonably priced too. We had an amazing stay. Thanks for making it such a good one.

After the four-hour bus ride from Chiang Mai, I found out my paid 'superior king' room wasn't available. The only option they gave me was a room with two very old single beds and lots of mosquitoes. The lady at the desk said I could switch to my booked room for nights two and three, but there'd be no refund. They don't speak any English, so sorting out the no-refund issue took about an hour. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
