Villa De Pai

The bungalow was fairly clean and basic, though it could use a deeper clean and some maintenance. We appreciated being able to refill drinking water at reception. The main problem was the noise from bars across the road, which carried on until 2 or 3 a.m. on some nights, so I wouldn't recommend staying here if you need sleep. The man running the place was friendly at first and refunded us when we decided we couldn't stay several nights because of the noise. Later, though, he was unfriendly when we came to collect a package we'd had delivered there.

The private bungalow was small but cute, with cubbies for bags and a little clothes rack. The air conditioning worked well, and there was a mosquito net and a small fridge. The shower never got hot, but we knew that before booking. It's in a great spot near the walking street.

The garden beside the river is beautiful, and every bungalow has a hammock out front. It's a simple, cute place with a fantastic central location, and they brought fresh water each morning. There's a microwave and hot water too. Evenings were peaceful until the drunk karaoke started across the road.

The restaurant was a highlight, with really good food, a signature sharing board worth trying, and lots of cocktails. Our room was spotless and nicely put together, small but cosy. The staff were so friendly and attentive, and did everything they could to make our stay relaxing. We were there as a couple, though it would also suit families with young kids. The location is close to the main streets but still felt calm, even during peak season. Boom Bar across the road could be noisy, but we were in room 28, far enough back that we barely noticed it. The music stops right at midnight. We had a fantastic time at Pai Village, a lovely hotel that was affordable too.
