Nana Beach Hotel

The pool was nice to use, and breakfast was fine, with plenty of choices and fresh food. Everything else made this the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. We booked three rooms, and all had the same serious issues, which made it seem like a hotel-wide problem. The mirrors were dirty, the rooms felt damp and humid, and there was a lot of dust on the ceilings. Bathrooms were in terrible condition, with mold on the walls and floors, a horrible smell, and blood splatters in the shower that looked like they’d been left by a previous guest. Finding someone else’s blood there was disgusting and completely unacceptable. Insects were everywhere: flies and other bugs in the bathrooms, ants around the air-conditioning units and televisions, and worst of all, all over the beds. There were so many ants on the beds that we didn’t feel comfortable sleeping there. The hotel looked nothing like its online photos, which made it look clean and well maintained. The photos were highly misleading. We were so angry, disappointed and uncomfortable with the rooms that we left and booked another hotel. That cost extra money and caused unnecessary stress during our trip. It’s shocking that all these problems were present in three different rooms.

We came in mid November, when the resort and village were very quiet. Maybe the weather explains it, since it wasn’t the best. There are a couple of nearby shops, though they only stock basics. One of the staff took us into town to a 7-11 in a sidecar. Our room was in the large building at the rear. It was clean, modern and a good size, with a firm bed. There was no safe or sink for washing cups and glasses. Breakfast was included and had a good variety. The restaurant is on the beach side of the road, and the food is brought over from the breakfast kitchen by motorcycle sidebar. It was very tasty. There was rain and high wind during our stay, so the sea was very rough. The beach looks like it would be idyllic in good weather, so check typical weather conditions for your planned stay.

Our bungalow had been updated and was nicely painted, but the fridge had a very bad odour. There was nowhere to hang towels, and the bath mat looked old, so I didn't touch it. We weren’t shown where the bungalow was. Our bags were taken to the rear accommodation block before we were asked, and we chased them down when they carried them back to ground level. Breakfast was basic for westerners, and when we first arrived, the breakfast room had a bad, funky odour.

The kids were happiest at the pool, and it was lovely to sit there with the beach just across the road. Breakfast was excellent, too. Our big family room was clean, though the bathroom drains had a really strong sewer smell. The beach looks nice from far away, but up close there was heaps of rubbish. It’s a bit out of the main town, but having a car made that easy, and parking was plentiful. I wish reception had given us more information about things to do, hotel facilities, opening times, and where to park. An information book in the room would’ve helped. We’d still stay again. The Chumphon area was so relaxing, and the kids loved the pool.
