Gu Hotel Patong

The reception lady was so friendly, and I got a good night's sleep in a comfy bed. The room had a fridge and good air con, and it was very good value. The location is amazing, right beside the strip where everything's happening. There's also a good gym and a nice pool with a view at the hotel opposite, and guests can use those facilities.

By far the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. They advertise a pool that's under renovation. I prepaid for a non-refundable room, but what I got was like a storage room, with a separate bathroom, toilet, and washer beside the bed. It was dark and noisy, and the lamps didn't work. But, ah, check-in has to be at the exact time, not a minute earlier, so you don't miss out on the luxury. Don't trust the pictures. Don't book here, even if it's free.

The room wasn't at all what I expected. I booked a superior room, but the balcony was literally two metres from the next building, with zero sunlight. Most of the pictures are of Gig Hotel across the street. Gu Hotel is just rooms, with no front desk, restaurant, or services. You can use the facilities at Gig Hotel, though I don't understand why the other hotel's pictures are used. If I'd known, I wouldn't have stayed at Gu. Being able to use Gig Hotel's gym, restaurant, and pool is the only reason I wouldn't say to avoid staying here. The pictures felt deceptive.

The walls and doors are thin. Some guys in a room down the hall kept us awake all night, and we had a baby with us, not ideal, though that's not the hotel's fault. The staff at reception, security, pool, restaurant, and the bell boy were all extremely nice. We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel, and the rooms were great. The pool was amazing too. We'd recommend it, but it's not the cheapest, so it won't suit someone looking for somewhere really cheap.
