Hermann Hotel Pattaya

The air-conditioning fan on the balcony was so loud that it was almost impossible to relax, and the cleaning staff slammed doors early in the morning, making proper sleep difficult. The rooms were very dirty and clearly not cleaned well. The lobby and pool were dirty too, the toilets smelled awful, and the whole facility seemed poorly maintained. Hygiene doesn't seem to be a priority. Reception had major communication problems because the hotel manager barely speaks English. That alone wouldn't have bothered us, but she seemed unprofessional and not very capable of handling situations. The place felt like mass processing, with no attention to detail or real care about quality. Very disappointing, and I can't recommend it.

The receptionists were extremely friendly and accommodating, and the service was great. The exterior looks nice and clean. Two rooms had problems with their AC units, though, which matters in Pattaya's heat. That issue needs to be addressed.

There were stains on the sheets, and the bath mat was dark and dirty. I also found the staff's attitude very poor, as other guests have mentioned. When I said I didn't have my passport with me, they looked annoyed. I had a Thai driver's license with my passport number clearly printed on it. I also explained I didn't have cash for the deposit, and they reacted as if to ask whether I had no money, with another annoyed look. Paying the deposit by QR code was possible even without cash. The staff member who helped me stayed dismissive and irritated throughout, and I honestly don't understand why. Their attitude ruined what should have been an enjoyable year-end and New Year holiday. This is an overpriced four-star hotel, while the staff service doesn't deserve even one star. A three-star place with good service would be far better. The attached photos show a very high proportion of low ratings.

The view is the main draw, and the location and price are good. The hotel shows its age, though. My room had been renovated, but the renovation quality felt poor for a four-star hotel. The pool is small and boring, the bar wasn't operating, and the gym wasn't good: just a couple of cardio machines, a very cheap non-industrial cable machine, and a few dumbbells, with the heaviest at 22.5 lbs (10 kg). The breakfast buffet runs only on weekends. The rest of the week you have to order from a pretty limited menu. If you're after a comfortable bed and pillows, this isn't the place. By North American standards, I wouldn't call it a four-star hotel.
