Markland Seaside Pattaya

The location was good, and parking for both motorcycles and cars was free. Our room was really spacious and good value, with a fridge. Dropping our bags after checkout was very helpful. We arrived around 9:30 pm and waited 20 minutes for the receptionist to check us in. There were lots of little cockroaches in the toilet, so I was scared to open the wardrobe. The furniture really needs renovating. The bed cleanliness also needs work: I saw a stain and human hair inside the blanket. Overall, good.

Our stay at Markland Seaside, Pattaya, room 1010, was horrible and ruined our vacation. I wouldn't give this money minting hotel even one star, and their lack of service deserves minus 10. We'd requested early check-in for 17th March, but they refused. Then they charged 500 baht per day for our 9-year-old, even though their official website said only children over 11 counted as extra people. First, they told us it was for children over 10. When I pointed out my son was only 9, they said they counted by year of birth, not month. It felt like another excuse to get more money. In the end they asked for 350 baht per day, with no extra bed. I asked them to show me the rule on the website, but they couldn't. Instead, they typed it on a plain sheet of paper and handed it to me. The air conditioner vent was broken. We asked for a second blanket, which they should have provided from the first day, but they wanted 200 baht per day for it. I got angry and told them they were just trying to rip off customers. After that, they came to our room to check whether the AC had a vent at all.

I've stayed in 2-star, 3-star, and 5-star hotels with my family, and this was the worst stay of my life. We paid a little over $40 a night for each of two rooms, and they looked nothing like the advertisement. The sheets were dirty and itchy. The AC didn't cool the room properly and made a horrible noise, and there wasn't even a fan to use instead. Cockroaches were everywhere. I left my suitcase while I went to the bathroom and came back to find them climbing into my clothes. The little closet with the locker was full of them too, and they kept coming from every corner of the bathroom. I couldn't leave a clean towel on the basin for even a moment. We left one slipper behind because roaches had crawled all over it, even into the sole. When we asked staff for help, they barely responded. We tried to cancel, but they wouldn't allow it, saying we'd lose our money after checking in. They charged another 400 baht a night for a flimsy extra blanket. There's no room service, and the pool was very cold. Half the building is a condo, and some rude, racist people there were awful to my brown skinned father just for splashing a little in the pool. I wish I'd taken photos, but I was too busy trying to get through that awful stay. Please don't book here. You can find a much better hotel in Pattaya for the same price or less.

When I arrived at 12:15 pm, there was no bellboy to help with my luggage. Housekeeping was extremely poor, and a housekeeping staff member wanted 500 baht for an extra pillow.
