Pattaya Modus Beachfront Resort

The beachfront location and chic design give Modus Beachfront Resort a stylish, relaxing feel. Breakfast had a good range of choices, and the staff were generally friendly and welcoming. We did have a frustrating problem one evening. After dinner, our key card wouldn’t open the room, and we were left waiting outside while the front desk and engineer tried to fix it. We were tired and wanted to rest, but no one told us how long it might take. The night staff seemed unsure how to deal with it efficiently. Better communication and handling of problems on the night shift would make the stay much better. We still had a pleasant experience overall.

I visit Pattaya regularly and have stayed here every time. I’ve always liked the boutique decor, private beach, room, amenities and complementary, and the secluded, retreat-like atmosphere. The hospitality has usually been top-tier. Even this trip, particular staff were great with setting up the internet and explaining the room. But around 7:00 PM on May 5, 2026, a receptionist handled a simple request for a bowl and cutlery by phone in a shocking way for a 4-5 star place. They brushed me off and said they couldn’t understand my English or Thai, even though I’ve lived in Europe for years and speak Thai daily with my wife. When I went to the desk to sort it out, the receptionist sounded irritated and raised their voice. I was told the cutlery cost 100 THB, a rule that hadn’t been mentioned at check-in or in the room information, and that I’d never been charged on earlier visits. Being shouted at as a premium guest felt unacceptable. Our luggage also wasn’t brought to the room when we arrived. As Premium Pool Access guests, we shouldn’t have had to chase down such a basic service. People who know me consider me Arom Dee, easy-going, polite, and patient. If a hotel’s service can leave someone like me this frustrated, it points to a serious issue with staff training and attitude. We book Premium Pool Access rooms to relax, not to feel humiliated by staff. The location is beautiful, but this front desk experience left a very bitter aftertaste.

There were eight of us across four rooms, and the check-out experience was unpleasant. At check-in we saw an ad for a discount when paying with a particular credit card, so when ordering food and drinks, we told the pool clerk to put everything on our rooms for payment with that card at check-out. When we checked out, the discount wasn’t applied. Staff then said it was a cashback offer rather than a direct discount, which felt misleading and left us disappointed.

The friendly staff were the best part of my stay. Pai in the restaurant was always welcoming and attentive, and our housekeeper also did an excellent job. The resort itself feels worn and dated, and the grounds need touch-ups and a thorough clean. It’s quite remote, which may not suit everyone. We had lots of bugs in our first-floor rooms in Buildings A and B, and there was a shallow pool of stagnant water outside the balcony. There was also a strong toilet smell. The condition and location detracted a lot from the stay, and the property needs better cleaning and maintenance.
