Sun Sky Resort

Sun Sky's a lovely little modern hotel, with quiet rooms, balconies, and beds that are medium-firm. It's about a minute on foot from the beach, beach road with the Baht buses, and Jomtien Night Market, where there’s a fabulous food court. The pool is small and partly shaded, so it can feel chilly, but the beach is right there.

There are better hotels in the area at the same price. The air conditioning in my room wasn’t very powerful, and the cable TV would play for a minute, then buffer for another minute, so watching anything was impossible. We accidentally booked one extra night and, as cash customers, were entitled to a refund. They first told us to come back at 7am, then said the manager hadn’t arrived and asked us to return at 11. At 11 they said the manager would be there at noon. The receptionist eventually admitted the manager wasn’t very reliable, and we finally got a call at 2pm telling us to collect the money. The repeated delays felt intentional, as if they hoped we’d give up or need to leave town for the next part of our vacation.

The staff were great, and the rooms are spacious with lots of seating. They don’t serve food, but there’s a great cafe right across from them.

The location is fantastic, and I liked the attractive, well-chosen furniture, the Netflix-ready TV, and the quiet air conditioning that worked very well. Those good points couldn’t make up for the poor rest, though. I’d asked for a quiet room on a high floor, but on my second visit I got a first-floor room where low equipment noises made it impossible to relax or concentrate. The bed linen wasn’t fully clean this time, the towels were worn, and the pillows had poor filling, so sleeping was uncomfortable. My first visit had been a five-star experience, but this one was much worse. I won’t be back.
