The Room 14 Pattaya

Staff were friendly, and they were fine with taking the equivalent of the 4000 baht damage deposit in dollars. They're not always at reception, but there's a number to call if you need someone. You get three access cards, for the hotel entrance, your room, and the electricity. The cafe downstairs wasn't open and had nothing in stock. My third-floor room had no view. I'd come back for the price and central location. It's an affordable three-star hotel in the heart of Pattaya, near amenities, Walking Street, central Pattaya, and the beach. Being one alley off Walking Street means you can hear some noise. Window soundproofing gets 8/10, but light sleepers may still hear music. Soundproofing through the room door and floor is poor, so I heard footsteps outside and chairs scraping on the floor above. There's no elevator, and the hotel has four floors, with the first floor at ground level. It's not wheelchair friendly.

===29/09/2023=== The staff were especially helpful when the safe kept showing an error. They managed to get it fixed. My main problem was the AC in room 41. At full blast it sounded like a diesel engine, so sleeping was difficult unless I turned the fan down to its lowest setting and used the stand fan as well. There's no lift, so people with mobility issues may want to reconsider. The in-room phone didn't seem to let me call another room, and I couldn't find instructions for doing so. The emergency torch in the cupboard was either broken or out of battery; it wouldn't turn on when I tried it.

The location is great and the rooms are big, but I won't be back. The rooms are worn, my sheets had holes, and the towels were very old and rough. Small things, but they shouldn't happen at the rates they charge. I found the older woman at reception extremely rude every time I saw her. I wondered if she might be racist against white people, though I can't say for sure. If management cares about repeat business, she should be fired. I'm sure I'm not the first guest she's driven away. Another guest told me she was also rude to visitors people had over. There's no secure luggage room. They told me to leave my bags in the hall, where anyone could get to them without the front desk seeing. I asked to put them behind the desk in a corner, out of the staff's way and more secure, but the woman just yelled “cannot.” When I asked why, she started yelling at me. It was nuts. Shame, because the place could be great.

Over my eleven-day stay, the hotel was clean and nice, and the staff were polite, funny, and helpful with everything. I'll definitely choose it again on my next trip.
