Mountain View Guest House

We spent three enjoyable nights in an upstairs room with lots of space, a comfortable feel, and great mountain views. The pool was a real highlight for me: super clean, well looked after, and beside a relaxing area. The family runs the restaurant and coffee shop, serving local and western food to a high standard, with a pleasant spot to eat or sit and talk while looking at the mountain. It's a great base for the hidden temple and caves, and about a 10-minute walk from the train station. Paul, the owner, is on hand with advice about the area and can arrange scooter hire. Prices start at 500 baht. I'd recommend staying here if you're in the area.

We liked the pool and the setting at the bottom of the mountain, and the rooms seem to vary a lot depending on your budget. We paid 450 baht per night for a basic ground-floor room. It was clean and the bed was fairly comfortable, but the soundproofing was awful. We could hear every word from the people next door. I'd read that the owners were very helpful and friendly, but that wasn't our experience. They were okay, though not the nicest people we met, and the lady spoke very poor English. We asked whether we could rent their scooter for ten days and were told yes, but when the rental was supposed to start, they said it wasn't possible. They offered to arrange another scooter from someone else for 300 baht a day, which felt like a total rip-off. Customer service could be better.

The owners were very kind and helpful, and the rates are affordable. They rent scooters for 300 baht per day. The location at the foot of the mountain is perfect if you're visiting Phattalung. I'd highly recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our recent stay. Paul, the owner, was great and very helpful. The rooms are a nice size, and there's a coffee shop and restaurant on site. It's a lovely, quiet area with plenty to do locally if you hire a scooter.
