AVA Hotel (SHA Extra Plus)

An absolute no-go. We had the largest room, with a double bed and a sofa bed. They wanted my 12-year-old daughter to have her own room. How can you expect a child to stay alone without her parents? That’s unacceptable and completely unfriendly to families. It makes it seem like families aren’t wanted.

The lobby looks very nice, though the rooms feel dated. My room had a clean bathroom and a comfortable bed, and overall it was very good value for the money. The door is very thin, so hallway noise comes through. I’d stay again.

For the price and location, it’s certainly in the 5* range. The exterior looks exceptional, though I wish they’d put more effort into the interior. My room wasn’t bad, had no smell, and the hot water and Aircon both worked. The wifi was exceptionally weak, almost nonexistent, which is why I gave the room 3*. Breakfast was meant to start at 7, but it was at 730. There was already a queue before 730, with only one staff member cooking. There’s just one kettle, and the hot water ran out quickly with so many hungry guests. I got two food coupons for two portions of khad tom, which was a big, filling serving. There were also two pieces of toasted bread, but service was slow because the same staff member was busy cooking and handing out the porridge.

For an overnight stay at a reasonable price, without breakfast, I’d recommend it. Rice soup and coffee by themselves make for a very poor breakfast.
