Mayflower Grande Hotel Phitsanulok

Breakfast is served in a different building, but that wasn't an issue, and there was a good selection. The hotel itself is older, though the rooms have been refurbished to a high standard. I loved the built-in sofa by the window, a nice spot to eat and drink while looking out over the Phitsanulock skyline. The bathroom was great too, and I finally got to have a bath after a long time.

The Folklore Museum is close by and well worth the 100 baht, especially for all the animal traps. The hotel may sound grand by name, but the bathrooms haven't been updated: the basin tap was loose, the fittings corroded, and the shower fixed over the bath. The rooms have been redone with light oak. Breakfast is in the adjoining suites building, with a good selection, but most of it was cold, and the two small toasters meant a queue. The pool is also a walk away, very small at about 14 strokes across, and refreshingly cold.

The room was thoughtfully laid out, with a large bed, desk, coffee, good lighting, a safe, and plenty of power outlets. Staff were efficient, parking was ample, and check-in was easy. There’s a lift too. The breakfast buffet was fine, and room service portions were generous and inexpensive.

There are two lovely temples near the hotel, though not close enough to walk to, and the river is nearby too. The neighborhood isn't crowded with tourists, so it feels like a more authentic Thailand stay. Staff are friendly, but some don't speak much English; I didn't have any major problems and it helps to know a few Thai words, since English isn't widely spoken around there. Breakfast was consistently good. The restaurant is usually quiet, prices are low, and most dishes are very good. The rooms are fine.
