Rimdoi Resort

Even with the rain and low-season timing, our accommodation was clean and ready when we arrived. There wasn’t a buffet breakfast, but they made us eggs, fruit, and traditional rice and noodle dishes instead. Dinner was very tasty and portions were good. We had a positive stay, and I imagine the place gets busy in peak season.

The wooden resort is sprawling and has clearly seen better days, though at 350 baht for a room I can’t complain. There are several restaurant areas with long teak tables made from giant sections of trees. The food was good, and breakfast was a buffet, but there was no butter. The place is actually rather poor forest, though, with far too many trees cut down.

The staff were hospitable and their service impressed me most. I only stayed one night because the power was down. For 350฿ a night, getting a room for two with air conditioning, a TV, a fridge, and free breakfast is hard to find. It may depend on availability, and I was lucky.

We left without checking in. My Thai partner had called the day before to book, and the person on the phone was a bit rude. The good reviews made us think little of it at the time. We were told check-in was at 2 p.m., but when we arrived at 2:30, our room still needed cleaning. We asked if it might be ready around 3, which wasn’t ideal but would have been okay. The receptionist didn’t know and suggested we go out and come back in the evening to see if it was ready. We declined and went elsewhere. It’s a shame, since the place looks lovely and having a cafe and restaurant onsite seemed convenient.
