In low-season June, I booked The Malika for four nights using points. It worked well as a town base and didn’t pretend to be anything more. Our Garden View room was on the top floor, clean and spacious, with glossy white tile and big sliding doors opening onto a balcony that gets actual light. They first offered us a ground-floor pool-access room, but asking to move upstairs was a smart choice. Downstairs looks right into a back-of-house garden corner where the hose is. From upstairs, you look over the greenery instead. It’s a modern block, with a real window and balcony in every room, no windowless shophouse boxes. The staff were friendly and easy to deal with, and there was free coffee and biscuits in the lobby. The pool stays quiet and does the job in the evening. The honest bit is that it’s not in the Old Town. It’s in a quiet residential pocket, about ten minutes by Grab from the food and markets, and the streets around it are dead at night.
