Pingplalee Resort

The staff were great, so positive and helpful, and we slept well in the comfy beds. The breakfast was good, and it was nice having drinks and ice cream by the pool. I like the decor and color scheme, and they have the potential to make it really beautiful. It seems they only recently obtained the property, so some work is needed. The rooms were very clean, but the sheets are faded and the bedding should be replaced. The TV felt pointless, since it’s so small and there’s so much to look at outside. The concrete design is nice, though the gaps and cracked spots need fresh putty and paint to look neater. The porches are spacious and lovely, but some are better maintained than others. The Thai food was good, but the chicken burger had far too much sauce. Bathrooms could use a few small improvements too, like better shower heads, more counter space by extending the sink, and a soap dish. We had a good time, it was clean, and we weren’t far from local adventures.

The owner was kind enough to offer dinner delivered to our room even though the kitchen was nearly closing. We arrived at Pingplalee in the evening, worn out after a long motorbike day in 42°C, and that was amazing. Our room was beautiful, with a balcony over the river where we enjoyed the delicious meal. The resort is small, cozy, and lovely, which is what sets it apart. We really enjoyed our stay and would have liked to stay longer, but had to return to Bangkok the next day.

The river view is gorgeous and completely unobstructed, and the rooms are incredibly spacious. This cozy, charming resort in rural Kanchanaburi had amazing service, and the owner was friendly and accommodating. There’s a resident cat called Tiger, just as friendly. Highly recommended for a peaceful break, or a place to stay for a bike race! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The resort itself was pleasant, with excellent river views, lots of lounge space, and a pleasant kitchen. Food prices lean into the resort’s luxury image, at 300-500 baht for main courses. But both rooms disappointed us. The photos and descriptions suggest a level of luxury the rooms don’t deliver, and other hotels nearby offer similar quality for less. Places above 1500 baht tend to be significantly better. We rented a small room and a mountain view room. The small room had no curtains, so I woke at 6 am from the light every morning. A missing air direction piece on the AC sent cold air onto my side of the bed all night. It needed paint, and everything seemed like the cheapest available: a tiny budget mini fridge from 2008, no closet space for clothes, and exposed wiring on the water heater. That might be acceptable at 600-1000 baht, but at 1500+ baht I expect better value. Rustic is an aesthetic, not just cheap items from Thai-Wasadu. On the plus side, the view was fantastic and the mattress and pillows weren’t hard as a rock. The larger room looked a little better maintained, but the advertised 49 square meters is grossly misleading. The bedroom is about 25 square meters, with another 20 in the balcony. The balcony shouldn’t count as living space: it’s mosquito ridden in the morning, too hot in the afternoon, and the mosquitoes return in the evening. The description should say it’s a 25 square meter room with a large balcony overlooking other rooms and the garden. There are no mountains there.
