NH Elegant Hotel

For less than 500 baht, I’d happily stay here again. I travel around Thailand a lot, and this older hotel is better than many newer ones. It seems to have been a top hotel once, and time has given it its own charm. My room was in decent shape for its age, with cool enough air conditioning, a large fridge, plenty of chairs and tables, a lit closet, clean glasses, enough outlets, muffled walls, usable wifi, free parking, and an elevator. The towel was clean but could use softener. There’s no breakfast, which was fine for me since I had a ride or could order delivery. I’ll post some photos next time I stay.

The check-in service was rude, and the hotel felt old and poorly maintained. The air conditioning was poor and wifi slow. We’d selected one double bed but were given two singles; they said a double might be available, but not until 6pm. I didn’t see mice or roaches, so I’d give the room two stars for that. If I can’t find somewhere better, I won’t return to Sakon Nakhon.

The bed was very good, but that was the one bright spot in a really bad stay. We booked two VIP rooms for one night, and although breakfast was included in the booking, there was none. Everything seemed old or broken. The terrace had a hole big enough to break your neck if you didn’t watch your step, and our room had no terrace furniture, though other rooms did. The walls between the rooms were so thin we could hear people breathing next door. Coffee and tea were supposed to be included, but weren’t in the room. Reception brought some along with a water cooker, which was full of ants and had to be cleaned before we could use it. The toilet seat was loose, with an open drain hole beside the toilet. There was only one towel for two people. The closet was just an open space with the cheapest, oldest hangers in Thailand. In the other room, the air conditioner was hanging off the wall by wires. The TV picture had more snow than Switzerland. Really BAD experience. Don’t go there!!!

My room was away from the main building, right beside the road, and next door guests were noisy. The walls were thin, and the room looked dated and unclean. The cleaner only replaced the toilet roll, left fresh towels, gave the floor a quick brush, and went. The toilet and shower room needed a proper deep clean. This place could be much better, but I wouldn’t stay again. That’s just how it was when I visited, though, so have a look first if you’re considering it.
