The Roo Classic Hometel

Right in the heart of old town, this is a great choice if you’re visiting. O & his team are lovely hosts. The old building has real historical importance and has been creatively turned into a wonderful hotel, with charming rooms full of character and strong AC if you need it.

The staff were friendly, but not very proactive. We only saw anyone for check-in, check-out, and breakfast, and had to look online to learn about the house’s 160-year history. It’s an interesting place, but clearly too expensive for what it is. The “vintage” rooms felt more like a collection of old TVs, bicycles, and whatever else they could hang from ceilings and walls. Our room was over a bar with live music until 1 o’clock. The big AC worked well, but was too loud to run at night. Mattresses were okay, the bed linen was very comfortable, and Wifi was stable and fast. Bathrooms and toilets are outside the rooms, very basic, with low shower pressure, though more or less clean. The vintage theme seems to excuse some dust, but the floor was clean enough to walk barefoot. Breakfast has to be ordered at check-in, with a choice of basic but tasty Thai dishes. The coffee was undrinkable.

Right in the middle of Old town, with everything within walking distance. The hometel is decorated with so much care that it’s a joy to wander around and look at all the pictures and decorations. Couldn’t have asked for a better place!

Pi Oh and the staff were super friendly. The hometel has just 6 rooms and is converted from a family house, with most of its old decorations still there. It’s in old town and really gives you a feel for the traditional vibe. I’d strongly recommend it, especially the breakfast set with its variety of thai foods.
