At Home Sukhothai

We liked it so much that we changed our booking and stayed two more nights. The hosts were the most hospitable we’d met during three weeks of travelling in Thailand. Our room was clean and spacious, the restaurant food was delicious, and breakfast was included and great. It’s only a short walk from town, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sukhothai.

The receptionist gave us a free map and explained how to catch the bus to the historical site, which costs only 20THB. Staff were friendly, though I had to look around for someone when I arrived because reception was empty. I stayed in a clean private bungalow with AC and two bottles of water. The shower was called “hot,” but it was more tepid. In the evenings no one seemed to be around, and I felt like the only guest.

The owners were really friendly and polite, and the Wi-Fi worked well. We had a garden view room with a/c for two nights; it was basic but decent, and the a/c worked pretty well. The lighting was a bit dim. There were three breakfast choices, and our cereal with fresh fruit was really nice. Dinner is available, but we ate out. The bathroom mould between the tiles and in the sink was a big no-go, and there were stains on the sheets even though they seemed freshly laundered.

I stayed a few years ago and it’s still excellent, run by wonderful people. The room is well set up, the bed is comfortable and the location is good. The restaurant is closed for dinner, but they kindly cooked dinner for me on both nights. I’ll return.
